Selecting the integrated estate planner that is best for you requires that you ask the right questions. Consider asking the following questions when you are speaking with someone you are thinking about engaging:

  1. How many plans having asset protection goals has your firm designed and implemented?
  2. How many of your plans have been challenged, and what have been the results?
  3. For how many years have you been engaged in integrated estate planning?
  4. What portion of your day is devoted to integrated estate planning matters?
  5. Approximately what is the average size of the estate that is planned by your office?
  6. On average, what value of assets is funded into planning structures created by your office?
  7. Does your firm handle all aspects of the planning, and if not what aspects are hired out or declined?
  8. How many attorneys in your office are well-experienced in integrated estate planning, and what is the depth of planning knowledge in your firm?  To whom do I turn if something happens to you?
  9. How active is your firm in the offshore industry?  Is it well known and highly regarded by your peers?
  10. How well-regarded is your firm in the planning community? Has it published articles?  Has it been invited to address professional programs?
